Excellent Handling

The excellent handling characteristics of the 2010 Escape can be attributed, in part, to the independent double-lateral and semi-trailing arm of the vehicle's rear suspension system. This design allows each rear wheel to operate independently and negotiate road conditions on its own terms. The available 240-horsepower 3.0L Duratec® V6 engine for Escape is a flex-fuel-capable engine. A flex-fuel engine is designed to operate on standard unleaded gasoline or E85 alternative fuel. Such flexibility allows the vehicle owner to choose E85 fuel, which is a combination of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent conventional gasoline, wherever it's available for purchase.

Eco-Friendly Seats

The innovative Earth-friendly cloth seat fabric in Escape XLT is made from postindustrial materials - polyester fibers that would otherwise have ended up in landfills. Furthermore, the cushions on all Escape models use a bio-based polyurethane foam derived from the oils of various plant seeds such as soybeans. Cargo Space

The 2010 Escape seats five passengers with its front bucket seats and 60/40 rear seats. Fold both rear seat backs down and you have 67.2 cu. ft. of space for carrying cargo. If you don't need all this space, you can fold either one of the rear seat backs down and still seat one or two rear passengers and have extra room for cargo.

The 2010 Escape features an available lockable wet trunk bin positioned underneath the rear cargo area. The wet trunk works to protect the vehicle's carpeting from wet or dirty items such as hiking boots. Moonroof

Let in more sunshine and fresh air with the available power moonroof. A sunshade and mini overhead console are included. MyKey?

MyKey? technology is a new standard feature designed to help parents encourage teenagers to drive more safely. It allows owners to designate a key that will operate special features for teen drivers. For example, MyKey? can restrict the vehicle's top speed to 80 mph and limit the entertainment system's audio volume to 44 percent of maximum volume. It also provides a warning when the fuel tank reaches 75 miles to empty, allows the administrator to select speed alert chimes at 45, 55 or 65 mph, and sets the Belt-Minder? System to chime, while muting the audio system until the safety belt is buckled. Additionally, it limits tire spinning by ensuring the traction control system cannot be deactivated.

Active Park Assist

If you could use a little assistance when parallel parking, Ford has your helping hand. It's called Active Park Assist, newly available on the 2010 Escape Limited. Here's how it works: While driving slowly in the parking zone, activate Park Assist and it looks for an available parking spot. Ultrasonic sensors measure the distance to the curb and between parked cars. Once a spot that's big enough is identified, you're signaled to stop and accept the system's assistance. When you give the system the green light to proceed, Park Assist controls the steering, all you do is control the braking.

AdvanceTrac® with RSC®

All 2010 Escape models come equipped with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control? (RSC®). It's the only stability control system with gyroscopic sensors that measure both vehicle yaw and roll motion. That means, if you corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object, RSC® automatically applies brake pressure and adjusts engine power to help you keep your vehicle under control. But remember, even advanced technology cannot overcome the laws of physics. It's always possible to lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions.

Airbag Coverage

Escape is designed to create a safe interior environment with a strong body structure that includes front crumple zone and side-door intrusion beams, and standard comprehensive airbag coverage. Dual-stage front airbags,* included in the Personal Safety SystemTM, enhance protection coverage for the driver and front passenger. Anti-Lock Brakes

Escape offers many active safety features designed to help you avoid an accident, such as the standard, power four-wheel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), which can help you maintain steering control during severe braking.

Heated Side Mirrors

The heated side mirrors (standard on Escape Limited; available on XLT in the XLT Sport Package) improve rear vision while driving during inclement weather. Additionally, integrated blind spot mirrors help reduce rear vision blind spots.
