The 2010 Escape comes standard with a mighty 2.5L Duratec® I-4 engine with advanced features such as intake variable-cam timing technology. The engine is mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic, and it produces 171 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque. What's more, all this power comes with impressive highway fuel economy ratings.* So, if you're looking for an SUV that delivers excellent economy as well as responsive performance, the 2010 Escape with a 2.5L Duratec engine is the way to go. *EPA-estimated 22 city/28 hwy mpg with I-4 manual, FWD. EPA-estimated 28 hwy with I-4 automatic, FWD.
If towing a boat or camper is part of your active lifestyle, the available 240-horsepower 3.0L Duratec® V6 engine is for you. This mighty engine gives the 2010 Escape excellent towing capacity - up to 3,500 pounds*. Plus there's Trailer Sway Control. To add towing confidence, this feature automatically determines the yaw motion of the vehicle if the trailer is swaying and take measures - such as applying precise braking or reduced engine torque - to help bring both the vehicle and the trailer under control. *When properly equipped.
The excellent handling characteristics of the 2010 Escape can be attributed, in part, to the independent double-lateral and semi-trailing arm of the vehicle's rear suspension system. This design allows each rear wheel to operate independently and negotiate road conditions on its own terms. An 18.5mm rear stabilizer bar and precise suspension tuning also contribute to the controlled, responsive ride you'll enjoy inside the 2010 Escape.
All 2010 Escape models with automatic transmission are equipped with a six-speed gearbox for smooth performance. Furthermore, with its wide span of gear ratios across the six speeds, this transmission of power provides pleasingly responsive acceleration at the low end and enhanced fuel economy* at the overdrive sixth gear. *Class is Small SUVs. EPA-estimated 21 city/28 hwy mpg, I-4 automatic, FWD; 19 city/25 hwy mpg, V6 automatic, FWD.
The available 240-horsepower 3.0L Duratec® V6 engine for Escape is a flex-fuel-capable engine. A flex-fuel engine is designed to operate on standard unleaded gasoline or E85 alternative fuel. Such flexibility allows the vehicle owner to choose E85 fuel, which is a combination of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent conventional gasoline, wherever it's available for purchase.
Another great Escape performance option is the potent 240-horsepower 3.0L Duratec® V6 engine mated to an efficient 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine churns out strength and provides torque to give you responsive power when you want it, all while delivering impressive fuel economy*. *EPA-estimated 19 city/25 hwy mpg, FWD.
Whether traveling on- or off-road, the available Intelligent 4WD System for the 2010 Escape is always on and always working to help provide maximum traction. What's so smart about the system is its ability to monitor traction 200 times per second by sensing traction input and automatically adjusting torque distribution as needed. Such adjustments work to help ensure the 2010 Escape achieves maximum grip where the rubber meets the road.

The innovative Earth-friendly cloth seat fabric in Escape XLT is made from postindustrial materials - polyester fibers that would otherwise have ended up in landfills. Furthermore, the cushions on all Escape models use a bio-based polyurethane foam derived from the oils of various plant seeds such as soybeans. More than simply "green," the durable, comfortable and stylish nature of the material also makes it a perfect fit for Escape.
The 2010 Escape seats five passengers with its front bucket seats and 60/40 rear seats. Fold both rear seat backs down and you have 67.2 cu. ft. of space for carrying cargo. If you don't need all this space, you can fold either one of the rear seat backs down and still seat one or two rear passengers and have extra room for cargo.
The 2010 Escape looks tough and stands tall, fronting bold design and modern style through and through. Inside you'll enjoy the room, versatility and comfort of available leather-trimmed seating. Outside, Escape charms with its striking chrome grille, streamlined hood, strong headlamp shape, available integrated side steps and sharply designed line of available wheel choices: 16-inch cast-aluminum wheels, 16-inch bright machined-aluminum wheels and 17-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels.

MyKey? technology is a new standard feature designed to help parents encourage teenagers to drive more safely. It allows owners to designate a key that will operate special features for teen drivers. For example, MyKey? can restrict the vehicle's top speed to 80 mph and limit the entertainment system's audio volume to 44 percent of maximum volume. It also provides a warning when the fuel tank reaches 75 miles to empty, allows the administrator to select speed alert chimes at 45, 55 or 65 mph, and sets the Belt-Minder? System to chime, while muting the audio system until the safety belt is buckled. Additionally, it limits tire spinning by ensuring the traction control system cannot be deactivated.
Active Park Assist
If you could use a little assistance when parallel parking, Ford has your helping hand. It's called Active Park Assist, newly available on the 2010 Escape Limited. Here's how it works: While driving slowly in the parking zone, activate Park Assist and it looks for an available parking spot. Ultrasonic sensors measure the distance to the curb and between parked cars. Once a spot that's big enough is identified, you're signaled to stop and accept the system's assistance. When you give the system the green light to proceed, Park Assist controls the steering, all you do is control the braking.
All 2010 Escape models come equipped with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control? (RSC®). It's the only stability control system with gyroscopic sensors that measure both vehicle yaw and roll motion. That means, if you corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object, RSC® automatically applies brake pressure and adjusts engine power to help you keep your vehicle under control. But remember, even advanced technology cannot overcome the laws of physics. It's always possible to lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions.
Escape is designed to create a safe interior environment with a strong body structure that includes front crumple zone and side-door intrusion beams, and standard comprehensive airbag coverage. Dual-stage front airbags,* included in the Personal Safety SystemTM, enhance protection coverage for the driver and front passenger. The six standard airbags also include front seat-mounted side airbags and the Safety Canopy® System with class-exclusive** standard side curtain airbags. *Always wear your safety belt and secure children in the rear seat. **Class is Small SUVs.
Escape offers many active safety features designed to help you avoid an accident, such as the standard, power four-wheel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), which can help you maintain steering control during severe braking.
The heated side mirrors (standard on Escape Limited; available on XLT in the XLT Sport Package) improve rear vision while driving during inclement weather. Additionally, integrated blind spot mirrors help reduce rear vision blind spots.
