AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control? (RSC®)

Explorer comes equipped with standard class-exclusive* AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control? (RSC®). It's the only stability control system with gyroscopic sensors measuring both vehicle yaw and roll motion. Corner too quickly or swerve to avoid an object and RSC will selectively apply brake pressure and adjust engine power to help keep you under control.

Safety Canopy® System

The Safety Canopy® System with side curtain air bags and rollover sensor is standard equipment on all Explorer models, providing protection in both side impact collisions and rollover accidents. Along with adaptive front seat airbags and side airbags for the driver and front passenger, the Safety Canopy® System provides comprehensive airbag coverage.

Electronic Trailer Sway Control

The standard trailer sway control feature works with the AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control? (RSC®) using the sensor that measures yaw motion to determine if the trailer is swaying. If necessary, trailer sway control applies precise braking or adjusted engine torque to help bring both vehicle and trailer under control.

Intelligent Safety System?

Explorer's standard Intelligent Safety System? lives up to its name. The innovative system processes information from a suite of sophisticated sensors and adjusts the performance of Explorer's adaptive load-limiting safety belt retractors, driver- and front-passenger air bags, and adaptive steering column to enhance protection in the event of certain frontal collisions.

Five-Star Crash Rating

Explorer has received the NHTSA five-star crash test rating* for all four crash seating positions (driver and right front passenger for frontal crash, and front and rear seating positions for side-impact). PowerFold® Third-Row Seat

The PowerFold® third-row 50/50 split-folding seat folds flat at the touch of a button. It's standard in Explorer Limited. The second-row seats fold and tumble to provide easy access to the third-row seating.

When you need your Explorer for carrying lots of cargo, you'll find it's more than up to the task. The five-passenger Explorer provides a maximum 85.8 cu. ft. of cargo space with the rear seat backs lowered (83.7 cu. ft. in seven-passenger model). In the five-passenger Explorer, with second-row seat backs in an upright position, you still have 45.1 cu. ft. to carry quite a load of belongings.

Seating Up To Seven

Explorer offers a variety of seating arrangements to suit your exact needs: (1) standard five-passenger Explorer with front bucket seats and a second-row 60/40 split-folding bench seat (2) six-passenger seating in Explorer Limited with the PowerFold® third-row seat and available second-row sport bucket seats with center console; and (3) seven-passenger seating with front bucket seats, second-row 60/40 split-folding bench seats, and available fold-flat third-row seat (shown) that features a convenient 50/50 split design, so you can fold one or both seat backs in to the floor. The third-row seat with manual control is optional in Explorer XLT and standard in Eddie Bauer®. The PowerFold third-row seat is standard in Explorer Limited models.

Power-Adjustable Pedals

Power-adjustable brake and accelerator pedals let you raise or lower the pedals to suit your individual height needs. Standard in Explorer Limited with a convenient memory feature that remembers your preset positions: optional on Explorer Eddie Bauer® with memory feature in the Eddie Bauer Convenience Package; and optional on XLT without the memory feature in the XLT Convenience Package.

Cargo Shade

Five-passenger Explorer models come standard with a rear cargo shade to help conceal valuables you would want to keep out of sight.

Voice-Activated Ford SYNC®

Explorer offers all the great features of the available voice-activated Ford SYNC® System* plus 911 Assist? and Vehicle Health Report. And now, Ford SYNC includes traffic, directions and information services. With SYNC, you can access your music collection on your MP3 player by genre, album, artist or song title, and operate your Bluetooth®-enabled phone with simple voice commands.* You can even select music through your flash drive by voice command. With the 911 Assist feature, within seconds after airbag deployment, SYNC uses the cell phone connection you programmed into the system to make a call to a local 911 emergency operator. A prerecorded message will then play when the call is answered, and you'll be able to communicate with the 911 operator.** Along with 911 Assist?, SYNC offers a Vehicle Health Report feature. SYNC gathers information from the vehicle's control modules and transmits it through the cell phone connection you programmed into the system to Ford by way of an 800-number. Rear Seat DVD Entertainment System

The available Rear Seat DVD Entertainment System makes getting to wherever you're going a lot more fun. The system comes with an 8-inch color LCD screen, two sets of wireless headphones and a remote control.

Navigation System with integrated SIRIUS Travel Link?

The optional voice-activated Navigation System provides many navigational features including detailed freeway exit, turn and ramp transition lane guidance; street name announcement; and current location display. And that's not all. There's the greater wealth of travel information that the integrated SIRIUS® Travel Link? service provides,* such as real-time traffic and weather conditions plus the lowest local fuel prices. 4-Wheel Drive or All-Wheel Drive

Whether you're battling the elements or navigating construction zones, Explorer has you covered. The available Control Trac® 4WD System helps deliver sure-footed control on any road. Choose the 4x4 AUTO setting for everyday driving. Kick it up to 4x4 HIGH when you need extra traction, such as on icy roads or in snow. Or choose 4x4 LOW for serious off-road adventures. Explorer also offers an optional All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) System. AWD is a full-time, fully automatic system that instantly delivers torque to the wheels needing it most. It's available on Explorer XLT Sport and Limited. Optional 20" polished aluminum wheels are required.

6-Speed Automatic Transmission

The 6-speed automatic transmission that's mated to the 4.6L V8 engine with the 4x4 model has a wide span of gear ratios across the six speeds, providing responsive acceleration at the low end with an incredible 315 lb.-ft. of torque plus enhanced fuel economy at the overdrive 6th gear.

When properly equipped with the Class III/IV Trailer Tow Package, Explorer 4x4 with available 4.6L V8 has a maximum towing capacity of 7,115 lbs. And you'll feel more handling confidence with Explorer's standard trailer sway control feature that works with the AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control®. It uses a sensor that measures yaw motion to determine if the trailer is swaying.
